Late at night, the driver of a BMW X5 in Torre del Mar aroused the suspicions of police officers patrolling the area and they decided to carry out a routine check. The response from the BMW driver was to put the accelerator to the floor.
Warning shots were fired by the police officer but these had no effect, the driver rammed the police car and then sped off into the night.
The police gave chase but could not catch the BMW which was heading down the A-7 at speeds of up to 200 kph. Police identified the car as having been stolen and informed the Guardia Civil who set up a road block at one of the tunnels.
The BMW, however, didn’t appear, the driver taking an earlier exit. It was spotted again at Villa Rosa as it headed back onto the highway from Torremolinos to Marbella and the chase was on again. Several police units were involved in the chase but they lost the vehicle once more as it reached Marbella.
Earlier in the evening, police officers had been involved in another car chase after a man driving a green Ford Fiesta sped away from a service station in Benalmadena without paying.
The car, which had been reported stolen the previous day, was later found abandoned in Los Asperones.
