The Interior Ministry has raised the security alert status to ‘high risk’ in the wake of recent events relating to the separatist organisation ETA.
These recent events, such as the theft of vehicles near Paris and the murder of a French police officer lead the authorities to believe that ETA could be planning a major operation.
The alert level is ‘Two’ and the risk level ‘high’ and will remain at this level until June 30th, the end of the Spanish presidency of the European Union.
The Plan for Terrorism Prevention and Protection was revised in June 2009 to improve its efficiency and has four levels of activation, each involving a series of actions to monitor and prevent terrorism.
