The Nerja Council is asking the Junta de Andalucia to expedite the formalities relating to the proposed botanical gardens near the caves so that work can begin as soon as possible.
The project has been pending for several years and there have been numerous difficulties regarding the transfer of the lands to the regional authority. Agreement was eventually reached last year but since then, nothing has happened.
At the last Council session, a PP motion to name the botanical gardens ‘Detunda’ was approved by all political parties. Detunda is the old Roman name for the village of Maro.
The Junta de Andalucia has apparently stated that the works will start ‘this year’.
