The improvement in the weather has resulted in a number of illegal immigrants making the crossing to Spain in the past few days.
The first arrival was a small skiff carrying six adults. It was spotted at around 20:00 on Saturday about three nautical miles off the Almeria coast near the mouth of the Rio Andarax.
The Maritime Rescue Service from Cádiz intercepted a toy dinghy about seven miles off Tarifa, three of the six occupants requiring medical attention for hypothermia.
Another small boat carrying six people managed to reach the shore in Almeria at dawn on Monday where they were detained by Guardia Civil officers.
Later in the day on Monday, the SIVE surveillance system located a boat carrying 37 illegal immigrants in the Alboran Sea. The occupants were taken to Motril where the Red Cross was on hand to offer assistance.
Two of the passengers showed signs of serious hypothermia and one was rushed to the Santa Ana Hospital in Motril for treatment after a deterioration in her condition following a sudden drop in body temperature.
