Real Madrid regained top spot in La Liga with a 2-5 win over local neighbours Getafe. Cristiano Ronaldo started the ball rolling with a goal in the thirteenth minute, a well taken free kick.
Higuaín then added two more in quick succession and Ronaldo got his second of the night to put the result virtually beyond doubt. Getafe pulled one back just before half time, courtesy of Dani Parejo, and then Pedro León grabbed a second for the home team just before the end.
Real and Barca are tied on 71 points at the top of the table and there is then an eighteen point gap to third placed Valencia. Xerez are still rooted to the bottom.
