A 17 year old athletics champion died yesterday after suffering cardiorespiratory arrest during a training session in Sevilla.
Samuel ‘Samu’ Navarro was training with other members of his athletics club at the Olympic Stadium on Isla de La Cartuja when he collapsed. He was attended by a doctor, physiotherapist and trainer while they waited for the Emergency Services to arrive.
A mobile IVU and Life Support Team were brought to the scene but the doctors could do nothing to save his life.
Samuel Navarro was the Spanish Junior Indoor Champion at 1,000 metres in 2009, a title he won in Oviedo, and at the Junior Outdoor Club Championships he became the record holder at 1,000 metres outdoors.
