Over 15,000 people attended the XI Día del Aceite Verdial in Periana to sample the special variety of olive oil only grown in this part of the Axarquia.
Periana is surrounded by 1,500 hectares of olives and although only half the normal quantity of olives was collected this year due to the bad weather conditions, the quality has been excellent.
The verdiales olives are crushed to provide an olive oil which has a soft and fruity taste with hints of apple and bitter almonds.
