Supreme Court upholds fine against judge Tirado

The Supreme Court has upheld a €1,500 fine imposed upon judge Rafael Tirado for his performance in the ‘Mari Luz’ case whereby his actions, or inactions, led to the alleged murderer being on the street instead of behind bars at the time of the murder.

The prosecution were demanding that the fine be replaced by a suspension from office for three years as his negligence was ‘very serious’ and Rafael Tirado was asking for the fine to be annulled. Both requests were dismissed and the fine was confirmed.

The accused in the murder of five year old Mari Luz, Santiago del Valle, should have been in prison at the time of the young girl’s death after having been convicted and sentenced for an earlier crime of sexual abuse of minors.
