The coach drivers have been protesting outside the Town Hall against the decision to relocate the carriages to the Plaza Fabrica de los Cangrejos, a move the drivers believe will be detrimental to their livelihoods.
The drivers have suggested several alternative sites but these have all been rejected by the Council. The Council in turn has offered ‘collaboration’ and part-time employment to the drivers.
The traditional location of the carriages, the Balcon de Europa, is no longer an option as the area has now become pedestrian only.
Diana says:
I imagine a move to the Balcon de Europa would boost the income of every retailer in Nerja. That doesn’t mean they should move there. There are more than enough customers in the Plaza de Cangrejos. The Balcon is a unique and beautiful location which should be preserved for pedestrians, vistors and locals alike. I, for one, will not miss the horses being temporarily “stabled” there all day and evening (plus everything that brings with it.)
