In a move more reminiscent of a politician, Ryanair has made a U-turn and announced it will comply with ‘unfair’ European law which obliges carriers to refund bills of thousands of passengers caught up in the volcano crisis.
Initially, Michael O’Leary had stated that refunds would be limited to the ticket price but today, however, the airline announced it will pay ‘reasonable receipted expenses’ under EU261 regulations.
Mr O’Leary is a long time opponent of the EU regulations, believing that reimbursements under passenger rights legislation should be limited to the ticket price paid in the same way they are for train, coach and ferry operators.
