‘Blue’ is thought to be the first reindeer born in England since the last ice age, up to 10,000 years ago. His parents, and the dad just had to be called Rudolph, were imported into England from Scandinavia in 2008 and little boy Blue was born on May 1st 2010.
There were wild herds in Scotland until the 13th century but the poor creatures were subsequently hunted to extinction. Cairngorm Reindeer Centre in Inverness in Scotland is the only place where reindeer roam wild in the UK after they were re-introduced there in the 1950s.
