Sixty-eight year old Purificación was walking home along a dirt road in El Toril, Alcaucín, when she heard the sound of barking dogs, getting closer and closer.
She turned around and a huge black dog pounced on her. Three more dogs then joined in the attack, leaving her with serious injuries.
The owner of the dogs, an elderly foreigner, apparently heard the screams and came out of his farmhouse to investigate and restrain the animals.
At first, the owner reportedly asked her to calm down, telling her that nothing was wrong until he saw the extent of the injuries to her face and neck.
He could not control the animals and was only able to haul two away and take them back to the house before returning for the other two. In the meantime, Purificación continued to suffer attack.
Once the dogs were restrained, Purificación managed to reach her home, only a few hundred metres away, where she arrived totally covered in blood and suffering bites all over her body. She is now in the Carlos Haya Hospital and will require grafts to some of the wounds.
SEPRONA are investigating the incident.
