The Partido Popular in Vélez-Málaga have described as ‘unacceptable’ and ‘a luxury’ the payment of €44,836 in overtime to five Council officials for work on projects under the Local Investment Fund 2009, or Plan Zapatero as it has become known.
Partido Popular councillor Antonio Arrieta described the situation as absurd whereby suppliers are not being paid by the Council yet five officials are being paid such overtime.
The Councillor for Infrastructure, Salvador Marín (IU), has defended the payments saying that the Council has no provision for technical work on some contracts and so decided to use the council officials by means of overtime payments which, he adds, saves the Council around €200,000.
