Today sees the start of the perpetual regeneration of Ferrara Playa in Torrox Costa with the Department of Coasts bringing in the bulldozers and trucks full of sand.
Despite the very wet winter, the beach didn’t suffer until April when three windy days left a shelf along the entire two kilometre length of the beach and left pipes and rocks exposed.
The Council and all political parties, displaying unanimity for once, are demanding a permanent solution to the problem of beach erosion, as are the businesses in the area. Ferrara Playa is always one of the worst hit in the area.
The Ministry has not yet made a decision on any specific technical solution to the problem so until they do it’s ‘bring in the sand’ as usual.
