A total of 24 fire crews are manually sifting through the rubble of a three-storey building which collapsed early this afternoon in Mataró, Barcelona.
The block, in calle Camí Ral, collapsed at around 12:30. Although a witness stated that they thought they saw someone walking past the building at the time, it is not now believed that anyone was injured in the incident.
The reason for the collapse is not yet known. The ground floor was occupied by a furniture store, which was closed at the time, and the first floor apartment was unoccupied. Two people were working in the building at the time of the collapse but were alerted by suspicious rumbling sounds and managed to make their escape and both were unharmed.
