Pendine Sands in Wales was the scene of a new world record, rider Don Wales achieving a speed of 86.069 mph on a lawnmower.
Don Wales is the grandson of Sir Malcolm Campbell who broke the world land speed record at the same historic venue in 1924, although in a car as opposed to a grasscutter.
Before the record attempt, the lawnmower had to demonstrate that it was actually ostensibly a grass cutting machine by…cutting the grass, strangely enough.
The previous record of 80.792 was held by American Bob Cleveland who set the record at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah.
The record attempt was also a way of raising funds for Great Ormond Street Hospital for Sick Children and Wessex Heartbeat.
Don Wales hopes soon to break the 100 mph barrier on a lawnmower.
