The Nerja Caves Foundation has begun to make an inventory of excavated relics to be displayed in the new museum and locating various items currently distributed in various other regions such as Madrid and Valencia.
Experts have been brought in to document the inventory to be displayed in the museum, one of the items being the skeleton of ‘Pepita’ as it has become known, the remains of a 20 year old who died from an ear infection around 18,000 years ago.
The caves contain archaeological remains covering a vast period of time, around 30,000 years, and include artefacts from more recent civilisations, such as Roman and Muslim.
