In Vélez-Málaga, plans are in progress to convert the main tower of the old Arab fortress into an exhibition space relating to the history of the town and its fortifications.
The project, with a budget of €68,000, will see the creation of four separate rooms within the tower. One will be for information relating to the history of the area, one for a general history of the municipality and the region, a third will relate to the citadel itself and the fourth room will contain four telescopes for viewing the surrounding countryside.
It is hoped that the museum will be operational in the first couple of weeks of July.
La Forteleza, as the castle ruins are known, was an important fortification between the thirteenth and fifteenth centuries for the Nazari kingdom. It was used as a general headquarters following the conquest of the city by the Catholic Monarchs in 1487.
