There are 21 ‘blue flag’ beaches in Málaga province this year, two less than last year, and in the region of Andalucia, Málaga ranks second only to Cádiz with 24 blue flags.
One of the municipalities to increase its number of blue flags is Nerja, going from two to four. Regular recipients Burriana and Torrecilla are now joined by Maro and El Playazo.
Fuengirola has maintained its seven blue flags for Los Boliches- Las Gaviotas, Torreblanca, Carvajal, Santa Amalia, El Castillo, Fuengirola and San Francisco.
Marbella still has four blue flags, for Artola -Cabo Pino-, Venus-Bajadilla, Casablanca and Guadalmina-San Pedro.
Towns losing blue flag status for one or more of their beaches include Torrox (Ferrara Playa), Algorrobo Costa, Málaga (Misericordia), Benalmádena (Malapesquera and Arroyo de la Miel) and Estepona (playa de Padrón).
