Thieves in Ronda have made off with about 125 metres of cabling from the street lighting in three areas: Murallas del carmen, urbanisation Arenal 2000 and La Pedania.
The thefts occurred on Monday night/Tuesday morning, the thieves removing the plastic coating to get at the copper wire which can be sold illegally as scrap metal.
The price of copper varies according to the thickness but is sufficient to tempt thieves to steal the wire from installations all over the region.
Apart from the cost of replacing such cabling, there is also the inconvenience factor for local residents as they could end up for long periods without power or telecommunications.
