Body recovered from rio Genil, Granada

Officers from the Parque Sur Fire Station in Granada have recovered the body of a woman from the rio Genil.

The woman, aged about 70 years, fell into the water while out walking with a friend near the library. The woman died from drowning, despite the river being very low at the moment. However, the current is strong and it dragged the body some 200 metres downstream.

Attempts to resuscitate the woman were unsuccessful. Initial reports indicate the woman had a head wound and an autopsy is being carried out to determine whether this was related to the fall or was caused by other circumstances.
