A man who was seriously injured after an explosion at a fireworks factory in Virgen de las Nieves on Thursday has died in hospital, bringing the death toll in the incident to five. The latest victim did not work in the factory but was visiting a friend.
All of the victims were under 45 years old and were parents and forensic experts are still working to formally identify one of the victims through DNA analysis.
The explosion at the fireworks factory completely destroyed the building and several of the bodies were found outside on the road, such was the force of the blast. The explosion shook windows in the town and was even felt in neighbouring villages.
The factory had been operating in the town of Virgen de las Nieves for twenty years. Forensic experts are trying to piece together the sequence of events and determine the cause of the blast.
