An explosion on board the ship ‘Kemal Ka’, travelling about 13 miles from Salmedina near Chipiona in Cádiz province has left one crewman dead and two others seriously injured.
The Turkish ship was awaiting orders after having taken on its cargo in Huelva when the explosion occurred. Three men were injured in the blast, the boatswain, first officer and a crewman. A helicopter picked up the injured, one of whom, the boatswain, subsequently died.
The injured are now in the Intensive Care Unit of the Jerez de la Frontera hospital and both are said to be in a serious condition.
The ship was given permission to dock in the port of Cádiz.
