The Treasury is warning of a new ‘phishing’ attack whereby taxpayers are being tempted to part with personal information such as bank account numbers and credit card details.
As has happened before, the emails look authentic and bear the Hacienda logo etc but they are definitely not from the Treasury.
The emails notify taxpayers that it was not possible to process their latest tax refund and ask that they provide personal details, such as bank and credit card details, in order to process the refund.
As with banks and other institutions, the Treasury will NEVER ask for personal or confidential information by means of email. Do not fall for this scam.
