The lingering economic crisis and high unemployment appears to be attracting more and more young people to apply to join the state security forces, with over 500 applying for just 4 posts in the Nerja Local Police force.
Candidates for such posts must be under 35 years of age and possess at least a baccalaureate certificate. Applications are studied and then a final list of candidates is drawn up and the real work begins, including physical and theoretical exams.
At the end of the selection process, just four of the five hundred applicants will join the ranks of the Local Police whose strength currently stands at forty-four officers.
Previous recruitment drives for a similar number of officers resulted in around 200 applications.
