National Police officers have arrested 15 people in Barcelona and confiscated over one ton of cocaine in Cataluña and Andalucía in an operation which began last August.
One of the detainees is the director of the cargo terminal in the port of Barcelona and he is considered to be one of the main figures involved in a national drugs network.
The drugs arrived in Spain from Panama, Colombia and Argentina, hidden amongst legitimate goods.
A total of 202 kilos of cocaine was found in the Port of Barcelona, hidden in a shipment of scrap metal. In Algeciras, 723 kilos were discovered amongst boxes of flowers and 113 kilos were found in a storage facility in El Prat, Barcelona.
Raids have been carried out on nine premises with police seizing numerous artworks of great value, 12 high-end cars, computers, documentation and €50,000 in cash.
The investigation was conducted with the cooperation of the authorities in Colombia and Argentina.
