Contrary to an unwritten ‘understanding’ that beach chiringuitos would be able to carry on as normal this summer and that the whole, messy problem would be sorted out at the end of the year, the Department of Coasts has suddenly given 13 chiringuitos in Málaga province a non-negotiable fifteen days to remove their terraces from the beach area.
The affected chiringuitos are to the west of Málaga city.
After an overly wet winter affecting income, a financial crisis in full swing and the summer season just starting, the owners are none too happy about the situation, and neither is Málaga Council.
The Council has already written to the Department of Coasts to express its dismay at this action and it remains to be seen what the outcome of this latest battle will be. The timing is certainly damaging to all concerned.
