Rafael Nadal claimed his second Wimbledon title, and eighth Grand Slam title overall, with a convincing win over twelfth seed Tomas Berdych 6-3 7-5 6-4 in just two hours 13 minutes.
Blustery conditions on Centre Court didn’t help either player, both making a number of unforced errors, but Berdych never looked like repeating the form which saw hime earlier defeat world number two Roger Federer and third seed Novak Djokovic, both victories in sttaight sets.
Nadal has now won 14 straight matches at Wimbledon and, at only 24 years of age, has every chance of challenging Roger Federer’s record of sixteen Grand Slam titles. Provided he remains fit, of course.
