Alhaurín el Grande Council has inaugurated the new building which will house, amongst other things, the new Public Library, The Gerald Brenan Foundation and the Gustavo Thorlichen Foundation.
The new building cost €4.3 million and was financed entirely by the municipality, a situation which did not please Mayor Juan Martín Serón.
The Mayor (PP) criticised the Junta de Andalucia (PSOE) for refusing to participate in the project, especially when it was to include what the Mayor describes as one of the most important libraries in Andalucia.
The new building covers 4,700 square metres and is located on avenida Gerald Brenan on the site formerly occupied by the municipal slaughterhouse.
Also forming part of this new cultural centre are telematics classrooms, an auditorium for 220 spectators, youth workshops, a press room, offices, children’s library and a parking area for fifty vehicles.
