The Green Party of Andalucia is to start a campaign to gather 75,000 signatures to force a vote in the Andalucian Parliament on the subject of bullfighting.
This follows Cataluña’s decision to ban bullfighting in the region as from 2012. The Green Party are hoping to achieve their objective around the same time as the Cataluña ban comes into effect.
The Green Party claim that bullfighting is subsidised to the tune of €38 million each year. They also claim that these subsidies have in fact been reduced due to the financial crisis and that in the last three years, the number of bullfights has been reduced by around forty percent.
