A fire at an organic waste composting plant in El Ejido continues to burn and is not expected to be extinguished until at least Wednesday.
The fire began at 21:30 on August 7th and covers an area of 10,000 square metres. Due to the type of material fueling the blaze, it very quickly spread and within minutes became quite intense.
The site contains tons of stubble and other agricultural waste, making early extinction of the fire almost impossible. The fire, which is emitting a large plume of smoke, is being monitored and controlled and when the vast amounts of waste have been consumed, the authorities will begin the process of extinguishing the fire.
The cause of the fire is not yet known.
