There are currently 23 fires burning in Portugal, with 13 being categorised as being large, and around 45,000 hectares of land has so far been destroyed.
Serious fires are affecting the National Park in Peneda-Gerês, on the border with Galicia, Montesinho Park in Braga and the Serra da Estrela park.
The summer has seen around 45,000 hectares of land destroyed by fire and only yesterday some 200 fires of varying degrees were reported. Most, according to the authorities, are believed to have been started intentionally.
