Two of the major bodegas in the Marco de Jerez, the wine region of Jerez, have today begun to harvest the palomino grapes and are expecting to collect around 16 million kilos of grapes.
Barbadillo and González Byass are employing around 850 people for the harvest which will last for about three weeks.
A wet winter had led to speculation that this year’s harvest would be delayed, but the recent hot weather has accelerated the maturation of the grapes.
In total in the Marco de Jerez, around 100 million kilos of grapes are expected to be harvested and the quality this year is described as very good.
