Three cases of domestic violence within 24 hours in Málaga, Lugo and Zaragoza have left one person dead and several injured, some of them critically.
In Málaga, a woman retired to bed after an argument with her partner who then followed her, covered her in lighter fuel and set fire to the bed, threatening her with a knife if she tried to leave.
A passing police patrol saw smoke coming from the house and went to investigate. They managed to rescue the woman who is now in hospital being treated for smoke inhalation.
The man, who resisted arrest, was subdued and subsequently arrested and charged with attempted murder and assaulting a police officer.
In Lugo, a professor surrendered to police a few hours after killing his wife, a nurse, at their home in calle Carlos Azkárraga. He has been charged with murder. The couple have two children.
In Zaragoza, a man stabbed his wife at their home in calle Pina de Ebro in the Torrero district of the town and then threw himself off the Tercer Cinturón bridge. Both are in hospital in a serious condition.
