A large forest fire continues to burn in the municipality of Laza, Orense province, and has already destroyed about 1,000 hectares of land.
The fire started two days ago and the dry conditions in Galicia have made extinguishing the blaze all the more difficult. However, the fire has neither threatened any buildings nor the nearby Invernadeiro Natural Park.
It is currently hoped that the fire can be brought under control later today.
During the summer months, Galicia usually suffers around 80 fires, of one sort or another, per day. So far in 2010, 3,000 fires have been reported and 10,000 hectares of land has been devastated.
Many of the fires, as is thought to be the case with the current blaze, are started deliberately.
