Storms during the past couple of days have once again had a dramatic effect on Ferrara Playa beach in Torrox Costa, the eastern end now having a one metre high ‘step’ due to the sands being washed away.
The Council is, for the umpteenth time, requesting the Department of Coasts to initiate a project to stabilise the beach through the construction of a series of breakwaters or jetties to prevent this alarmingly regular occurrence.
Hotel owners, swimmers, tourists, residents and local businesses have all complained about the situation but the Department of Coasts appears to still be content to carry out the more expensive sand replenishment option every time there is bad weather rather than implement a permanent solution.
This situation is, of course, not unique as many coastal municipalities face the same problems every time the weather changes.
