Two men, aged 45 and 75 years, died yesterday while swimming in the sea in Almuñecar, Granada province, during heavy seas caused by strong winds.
The bodies were found about 150 metres off Pozuelo beach, although it is not yet known whether this is where they were actually swimming or whether their bodies were carried there from nearby Tesorillo or Velilla beaches by the strong current.
Two youths attempted to swim out to help the two men but were forced to turn back due to the strong current and waves reportedly several metres high.
An investigation is under way to determine the exact circumstances of the incident.
