The IU has criticised the decision by the ruling PP (several months ago) to order the owners of plots of land in the centre of town to erect walls around these plots to prevent them being used as free parking. These plots were used as free parking areas for many, many years without problem.
The plots accommodated around 300 vehicles of all sizes and the IU say that this measure is just another means of trying to get people into the (paid) municipal car parks.
The PP response was that the measure complies with the PGOU (General Plan).
A further 100 free parking spaces have just been lost to accommodate the new Football 7 pitch in Parque Verano Azul and a project to make parking ‘easier’ on calle Chaparil has so far only resulted in the loss of about 6 or 8 parking spaces.
