The hot weather in Andalucia in July and August claimed the lives of seven people, six men and one woman, either as a result of heat stroke or the aggravation of an existing illness.
The Emergency Services received 682 calls relating to heat related problems with 51 people being diagnosed with heat stroke.
Most of the victims were not in what is classified as the ‘vulnerable’ age group but were aged between 35 years and 65 years. The Minister of Health, María Jesús Montero, wants to develop a system whereby more attention is given to those people taking medication due to their vulnerability during hot weather.
