The veterinary service of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries has confirmed two cases of West Nile Fever in two horses in Jerez de la Frontera following a routine control carried out under the epidemiological programme.
Increased controls are now in place in the area to detect any new cases of the virus. West Nile encephalitis is caused by West Nile virus, a non-contagious infectious disease that mainly affects birds and is transmitted by the bite of a mosquito.
The two affected animals are already showing signs of recovery.
