The first exhumations of Civil War mass graves in the Axarquia, which has been taking place in and around the cemetery in Alfarnatejo, has turned up a somewhat unexpected result.
In one, documented grave actually inside the cemetery were the bodies of two policemen and a young man, both Republicans.
However, in a second grave in the vicinity of the cemetery were the bodies of two Nationalists. The grave was located as the result of testimony by local residents, including the Mayor.
The graves were located and the bodies exhumed at the request of a relative of a victim of Civil War reprisals.
