The Meteorological Office (AEMET) has issued storm warnings for all of Andalucia today, with Cádiz, Málaga and Sevilla on Orange Alert and Córdoba, Granada, Huelva and Jaén on Yellow Alert.
The probability of rain and thunderstorms is put at between 40% and 70%.
The following advice is offered by the authorities:
In the event of heavy rainfall, it is advisable to remove all exterior furniture and objects that could be swept away by the rains to avoid accidents and to unplug all electrical appliances in the house.
Do not camp or park vehicles in the dry riverbeds or the on the riverbanks. This avoids being surprised by a sudden flood of water.
With respect to persons traveling in vehicles, they are advised to exercise extreme caution, always respect traffic rules and try to keep up to date with the situation via telephone (112) or the radio.
If surprised by torrential rain and the water level begins to rise on the road or the vehicle becomes stuck, the car’s occupants must be prepared to leave and head to higher ground .
In case of storms, you should close doors and windows to prevent drafts of air in homes and houses, as they attract lightning. Electrical appliances and television antennas should be disconnected.
If a storm occurs while you are out and about, never take shelter under trees, especially a single tree, and avoid small buildings, barns, sheds and tents and convertible vehicles.
