New residential home in Ronda for the intellectually disabled

The Councillor for Equality and Social Welfare of the Junta de Andalucía, Micaela Navarro, yesterday inaugurated a new residential centre in Ronda for people with severe intellectual disabilities.

The opening of the residence has involved the recruitment of 30 staff, including carers, nurses, instructors, physiotherapists, cooks and cleaners.

The number of places agreed with the Junta de Andalucia is 30 in the case of residence (€820,000 per year) and 10 for the daycare unit.

The new facility has cost nearly €1.9 million and has been financed with funds from the Junta de Andalucia, €1,357,474, the city of Ronda, €247 965, the ONCE Foundation, €115,000, Caja Madrid, €40,000, Unicaja Social Work, €3,500, and the Royal Cavalry of Ronda, €3,987.

The building occupies 1,800 square metres and has two floors with areas for relaxation, rehabilitation, a central patio and hairdressing facilities for those over 16 years of age who need assistance from others with their everyday life.

The centre is run by ASPRODISIS (Asociación Protectora de Personas con Discapacidad Intelectual de Ronda y la Comarca), founded in 1978 and involved in helping a total of 203 people with varying degrees of disability.
