This summer has seen the least amount of fire damage in Andalucia for a decade, with 684 hectares being destroyed.
Of the 684 hectares, 90% was scrub and only 10% was actual forest. INFOCA were involved in 463 fires, only six of which exceeded 25 hectares and none were of the category described as ‘Grand Forest Fire’, namely affecting over 500 hectares.
Last year, 2009, the damage was around 12,000 hectares. One fireman lost his life in the summer of 2010, tragically killed while attending a fire in Senés, Almeria.
