Málaga played host to Villarreal on Monday evening, a game which saw five goals in the first 33 minutes. The Blue and Whites opened the scoring after only four minutes, Eliseu shooting from the edge of the box.
Cazorla equalised for the visitors in the 21st minute and then two minutes later, Rossi gave them the lead. Back bounced Malaga with a goal from Rondón but then Cazorla grabbed his second of the night and Villarreal were back in the driving seat.
Eliseu, scorer of the opening goal, was given his marching orders just before half time and the Blue and Whites had to play the rest of the match with ten men.
