Torrox Council has been forced to hire a private security company to protect the Local Police Headquarters after virtually the entire force of 34 officers reported ‘sick’.
The feria started on Thursday and there has only been one Local Police patrol at the event at which two people have already been hospitalised following a big fight.
A similar situation occurred in 2008 and is part of an ongoing dispute between the Local Police and the Council. According to the Council, the police officers have now been paid the outstanding amounts for extra or special work assignments and therefore cannot understand this latest action.
The Police Chief has been asked to provide a report on the situation regarding those reporting sick and has stated that as from Monday it will act firmly to stop this situation from ever recurring.
Today, Sunday, there are apparently two patrols with the Guardioa Civil and Civil Protection lending a hand.
