The secretary general of the PSOE in Torrox, Francisco Muñoz, has demanded the resignation of the mayor of the town, Antonia Claros (IU), and Councillor for Citizen Security, Manuel Palomas (PP), following the farcical situation with the Local Police force which led to a private security company having to be hired to guard the Police Headquarters.
Most of the 34 officers making up the Local Police force in Torrox reported sick over the weekend, with only one patrol going out on Saturday and two on Sunday.
One officer was available at the headquarters but his activities were limited to the minimum, such as answering the telephone. As a result, the Council called in a private security firm to guard the building.
A conflict between the Local Police and the municipal authorities has been ongoing for a couple of years now.
The PSOE hold the Council accountable for the situation which they believe puts the security of residents at risk. On Saturday, a big fight at the feria ended up with two people being hospitalised but the Local Police presence was limited to one patrol.
