Unemployment in Spain rose by 1.2% in September, another 48,102 people joining the ranks of those without work. This puts the total number of unemployed at 4,017,763.
September is a month when unemployment is expected to rise but the increase was lower than in the same month in 2009 when unemployment rose by 80,367 people.
Unemployment during the past twelve months has risen by 308,316, an 8.3% increase. According to the Government, the Spanish economy is beginning to show signs of growth, but this will not be reflected in the employment figures until there has been a long period of sustained growth.
