Oil thieves sent to jail

A judge at the Court Number Two in Totana, Murcia, has ordered preventative incarceration for the eleven people, ten Italian and one Spanish, who were detained in connection with the theft of 100,000 litres of olive oil from a mill in Purchena, Almería.

Operation ‘Olivar’, as it was known, began on June 19th after the theft of 45,000 litres of oil from a mill in Bullas. As the investigation progressed, the Guardia Civil located a warehouse on an industrial estate in Librilla (Murcia) linked to a number of Italian and Spanish individuals and at which no discernable trade was being carried out.

On Wednesday and Thursday of last week, a number of Italian registered tankers turned up both in Librilla and Purchena, ready to transport the stolen olive oil to Italy.
