Torrox is not the only town where disputes exist within the Local Police force, Nerja has its own problems which have been going on for years.
The Sindicato Independiente de Policía de Andalucía (SIP-AN) – The Independent Police Union of Andalucia – has issued a press statement denouncing alleged ‘coercion, threats, degrading treatment and persecution’.
The dispute relates to the allocation of officers to the various shifts. There are 42 officers in the Local Police force in Nerja and 23 of these officers are regularly called upon to work the night shift or on public holidays.
Coincidentally(?), 20 out of the 23 officers working the night shifts and holidays on a regular basis are affiliated to the SIP-AN. The rest, who always work the normal morning and afternoon shifts, are not affiliated to the Union.
